Losing weight can certainly be a challenge.

It's a challenge one Signal Mountain, Tennessee woman is trying to overcome...and she's doing it online.

Kim Witt says she's lost about 50 pounds so far...and she's looking to lose an additional 20 with the help of personal trainer David Duford.

They've set up a "blog", and have also put clips on video site YouTube to chronicle her progress.

She hopes to lose the 20 pounds over 12 weeks. She says, "...just get me out there and show people they're not alone, and it can be done if they just work hard and do what they're supposed to, it'll happen."

Her trainer, David Duford says, "Everybody's not only going to be able to not only read about her, but also watch online...see what she's succeeding at, see what she's failing at. So, everybody will have a better overall picture of how she's doing plus Kim gets the added motivation of people watching her."

Business: Resident loses weight with world watching

Signal Mountain resident Kim Witt is on a mission to lose 20 pounds in 12 weeks and she's sharing her progress through the Internet to encourage others.

"I want people to say, 'There's somebody from my hometown doing this on their own and being successful at it,' " she said.

At the Web site www.getfitchattanooga.blogspot.com, Mrs. Witt and personal trainer David Duford will post blogs and video throughout the next three months. Each two- to three-minute video will focus on Kim's exercise routine with voiceovers about her progress in and outside of the gym.

"It's not just the workout it's the whole mental and emotional side that I think is important as a personal trainer," explained Mr. Duford, owner of QuickFit Personal Training and Signal Mountain Boot Camp.

The pair started working together last November and since then Mrs. Witt lost 43 pounds. Mr. Duford said he is confident in her ability to reach her goal because of the determination she has demonstrated to this point.

"I look at weight loss like a science experiment," Mr. Duford said. "You've got to have variables and you've got to fix the variables as much as possible." By lowering calories and increasing exercise the formula is simple, but consistency is the key.

The online project was Mr. Duford's idea. He said others have done it, but he was convinced by past experience. Before the age of computers, he said he remembers seeing pictures from each day of an individual's transformation from more than 100 pounds overweight to fit. Mr. Duford said this is a similar idea, but better because it's more than just pictures.

Mrs. Witt said it's motivating to know people are watching. "I'd just like for people to relate to me," she said. "I want them to see me for me and see what I've gone through. I've struggled with my weight since junior high."

The 37-year-old mother of two said her husband Johnny has been a great support. Her youngest son, Tyler, bragged to his first-grade teacher about his mom's online fame.

"Kim is the type that's a quiet, disciplined, motivated person," Mr. Duford said of the effect the Internet exposure would have on Mrs. Witt's results. "Given the pressure, she's going to respond in a positive manner."

The Web site provides the opportunity for feedback. "We want people to comment," Mr. Duford said. "We want people to share their stories and relate to Kim." There will also be a 25-page report called "Seven steps to skinny jeans in 30 days or less" available to download free.

In addition to her family, Mrs. Witt said the people she works with at Memorial Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center have been greatly supportive. She isn't looking to become famous, but she doesn't mind stopping to talk to her Signal Mountain neighbors that see her online. Of course if Oprah comes calling, Mrs. Witt said she'd be more than willing to make an appearance.
